Freebie skins vs. Regular skins

All of them were drawn on the very same templates. Only the color differs, and details like eye makeup or glossy-matte lips. The freebie ones, except for the wine makeup, were “rejected” and given away as gifts just because I thought they were’t “wearable” enough. The wine makeup, actually, was made on the last minute *just* for the hunt, because I thought people would want something more basic and easier to match to their outfits.

These skins are not meant to give a realistic look, I never intended that (first, because I love hand drawn skins, and second, because the market for realistic skins is already oversaturated, I wouldn’t risk entering it). Lips are made to give a fuller, rounder look (just like Lovey’s or the Paon line from Vivant/Fleur). They may not work on every avatar, specially if you already overdo the fullness sliders. A little adjusting could make it work, I always adjust my mouth sliders when trying on a new skin. I’ve even included my own shape for reference inside the complete skin package.

These are shown with the prim eyelashes included on the (non freebie) package. I don’t like the look of drawn on eyelashes, and linden lashes just plain suck, so I keep my slider set to zero. I’m assuming most female avatars wear prim lashes and already have their favorite (I, personally, love the ones from Cake, edited to be on top only), but anyway I’ve included a pair, already fitted to the included shape.

And, btw, adequate lighting can also do wonders for your appearance. Just sayin’.

So, if don’t mind adding some fun, colorful makeups to your inventory, come join our group and/or stop by the store to have some fun with the hunt, before I change my mind and put it all down to stop the complaining.

You should not have had to post this here. You’ve always been one of the most generous people when it comes to providing high quality freebies to the community, and it makes me angry that you feel you have to offer this comparison to justify sharing a lovely gift with your customers.

I love the fact that your skins are not photoreal! A little adjusting DID make the lips work the way I liked, and I loooove the bright colours.

People aren’t happy unless they’re complaining about something. -_-

    Thanks for the goodies, Moire!

I agree with Stephanie, it’s outrageous that you even have to justify your /freebies/. Your work has always been high quality and you’re an amazingly generous content creator. And I concur, I don’t know any female av in the fashion community that doesn’t wear prim lashes (or default eyes for that matter, to buy a pair of eyes is what 10-50L??)

truth be told, I never wear anything I find in a hunt..because..well, everybody and their mother has it now…but I do appreciate the fun and the puzzle of hunts, so I enjoy doing them…alot.

I also appreciate the work that went into putting one together, so thank you!

    Moire,

I am really appaled that anyone would say anything about the free skins you are giving out, and making snap judgements about a designer and what “They should think about” before offering freebies.

Freebie etiquette seems to have gone out the window, and making statements about the designer and not the product is uncalled for. Moire has been endlessly generous, and she cares deeply about doing a good job. Unlike some well known skin brands, she took 3 months to create a line of 48 skins total. She made them by hand, mostly hand-painted, not by using someone else’s work without legal rights to it. I think that is what people are missing. If every new skin maker could afford to give out their best work, that would be another story entirely… but when you are introducing your first skin line, you are taking a huge risk and three months of work is not something you just hand out.

I think Moire has done a wonderful job on her first line of skins, they meet her personal aesthetic, the look she likes and hopes others will… they will not be for everyone, but name one skin maker that EVERYONE likes.
Constructive criticism is one thing, but second hand critique is another.

I like them, they are fun, they are handdrawn, unique and authentic.

It’s an outrage that you should feel you have to defend yourself on what you graciously give away.

Said that, skins are highly personal, and as I stated on my blog before, since these skins are ot heavily shaded, they will not override your shape like some other skins around, that will make alll avatars look more or less the same.

If you don’t look good in Le Salon’s skins, then your shape is just not right for it, which leaves you with 2 options: either tweak it and make it work, or… just don’t use the skins, delete them if you want, and have fun with the rest of the hunt (cute hair too)

Never, ever complain to a content creator about freebies. It is just SO not done.

Geez, stuff like this pisses me off.. get a life and some common decency.

oil? there’s no oil in the hunt.
if you’re talking about the cream, there was actually a 4th cream item that was broken and put there by mistake, so it was deleted. you’ll need to find the actual 3rd item. all other items are in the very same place, i didn’t change them.

I hope that whatever negative comments and attitudes you’ve experienced with the hunt will be balanced out by the appreciation of those who really do enjoy your work. The detail of the hunt objects, the fantastic skins and hairs to the huge effort to fight against the b0rkedness of SL: it’s a commitment not many would gladly do, me included :)

All I can do is echo the others and say -Thank you Moire!
